PRM.no / Check your text

Proofreading

Is it ready to send?

Paste the press release. You get it checked against the rules newsrooms actually use — length, sourcing, headline, quotes, marketing language and contact details.

The rules are Norwegian. This tool is built for press releases written in Norwegian and sent to Norwegian newsrooms — the word lists, the sourcing rules and the headline tests all assume that. It will run on English text, but the language checks will not mean much. The individual findings are written in Norwegian, because they quote the rule they come from.

Your text is sent nowhere. Everything is computed in your own browser, and an unpublished press release never leaves your machine.

Used to separate your own figures from claims about the market. A company may state its own numbers without a source — claims about the industry may not.

Tick these for anything that is attached as a separate field rather than written into the text. That way you avoid warnings about something already in place.

What this check does — and does not do

Everything here can be decided without judgement: how long something is, whether a figure has a source, whether the headline holds, whether the quote says anything. The rules come from the news criteria newsrooms use themselves, and are calibrated against thousands of real press releases. If a rule fires on nearly everything, it is the rule that is wrong — not the releases.

It does not tell you whether the story is news. Whether something has enough significance, timeliness or conflict for a newsroom to spend space on it takes a judgement this layer does not make. That assessment comes with the model, together with a recommendation on when and to whom the release should be sent.

What nobody else does. Both Mynewsdesk and NTB will help you write a better press release. Neither of them tells you when the story should not be sent at all — they charge per sending. How we work.
